For the Love of Crafting
Written by 2SistersaPairofScissorsan
Even as a child I had visions of doll-clothes not to be found in any store. So I asked my Mom for rags and scissors and began my designing career. As a pre-teen, I advanced to home-fashion - making chair cushions, pillows & whatever else was asked of me - all hand-stitched. My older sister was given a Kenmore Cam sewing machine, but I wasn't allowed to touch it until I took a Home Economics class in school. My teacher was adamant that I stick to sewing my purchased dress pattern as printed. The good news is I got an understanding of how patterns work; the bad news is I got a D for adding pleats! No longer tethered to my teacher, or purchased patterns, my creations are unique. Some have even been presented at fashion shows! The old Kenmore is long gone - replaced with state-of-the-art machines. The rags have been replaced with a fabric stash featuring everything from leather to lame. Like many crafters, my housework and husband are neglected - all for the love of crafting!
Dollmaking
Written by MarilynThedollmaker
It appears to me that many dollmakers are no longer in the business of making dolls. I hope dollmaking is not dying out. I have been making dolls since 1990 and I really love doing them. I am now making cloth dolls, and liquache dolls. I've been giving my time these days to sock doll classes to the homeless shelter in my community. I am so looking forward to meeting new people on this site. 2012 is looking to be an exciting year. I will be doing many craft shows this year in Tennessee. Would love to hear from anyone out there who is really making their craft talent work for them. Thanks.
